The rich cultural heritage of both Mauricio and Aluki Rojas has provided a great opportunity for their five children (Jukipa, Papatsi, Kunuk, Siku and Igima) to have a strong cultural connection to the Quichua culture in Ecuador and the Inuit culture in Canada. Mauricio is originally from Peguche, Ecuador. Aluki is originally from Igloolik, Canada. Currently the Rojas family lives in Iqaluit, the capital city of Nunavut, Canada. They have strong ties to Ottawa and Montreal where extended family members reside.
